Red Lion News - Spring 2015

The Boxing Day golf was once again a very busy day. Many families turned out in the cold to keep up the tradition. This year, for the second year running, it was won by a lady, Mrs Lynne Saunders, with a 5 iron, in 13 strokes. Well done to all who participated – long may the tradition continue.

With sport in mind, our pub teams are enjoying a good winter season. The crib and domino team are mid table, and in the final of the pub team knockout, so we will bring back some silver ware. Both the quiz teams have great hopes in the Plate competition. It has been a challenging season for both teams. The Monday darts team are top of the league, and the Tuesday team are mid table of division one, and both teams are still in the competitions. The ladies darts on a Thursday are doing well, as they do most years, but alas not many ladies are interested in playing darts, which is a great shame. All in all we have a good sporting pub. Well done to all who take part and the best of luck in the competitions and for the remaining season.

Finally may we inform villagers of the death of Mr Peter Hansen, a member of the village and a supporter of The Red Lion. He was a regular customer of the pub and a friend to all. He is sadly missed by all who knew him. There is a lunch meeting at The Red Lion for family and friends of Peter on Saturday 11th April at 2.00 pm, to raise a glass to him, and as he requested his ashes to be scattered in The Red Lion garden. A rose bush will be planted by Paul and Brenda in memory of him. All who knew Peter are welcome.

Don’t forget the Sunday quiz is still held at the Red Lion on the first Sunday of the month - so church first then a friendly quiz afterwards.

We are looking forward to the warmer weather, when we will continue our BBQs
